Sculpting Class with Troy McDevitt

Cost: $225

This “hands-on” sculpting class will be held on Friday, September 8th 2017 from 10:00am to 5:00pm EST in a professional conference room at the Newark Liberty International Airport Marriott, NJ.  It is occurring the day before the weekend long vendor show begins and will be tailored for sculptors of all experience levels.  So if you are new to sculpting or just a collector, this class is as much for you as it is for the advanced students.  Seating is limited, so if you would like to attend we suggest registering for this class soon to secure a spot.

Here is an incredible opportunity to take a professional sculpting class produced by Polyform and JerseyFest that will be instructed by renowned sculptor Troy McDevitt.  The class will cover many topics including:

Progressive stages of a sculpt

• Making an armature

• Detailing (hair, textures, etc.)

• Making your own tools

• Using the right materials (clay, epoxy, etc.)

• Finishing

• Making copies of your sculpt

• …….and much more!

There is nothing for you to bring other than your passion to learn sculpting secrets from a world class artist.  All the supplies you need for the class will be provided including Polyform “Soft” Super Sculpey Clay and precision sculpting tools that you’ll get to keep.  But feel free to bring your own favorite tools.  Seating is very limited, so if you would like to attend we suggest registering for this class soon to secure a spot.

At the start of the class, Troy will go over some of the basics of getting started on a sculpt before giving the attendees the concept they’ll be working on (to be revealed during the class). Once that’s been announced, everyone will get started, and the remainder of the class will cover various techniques and tips.  Troy will walk the room to assist attendees with any questions or issues they may have throughout the day. You’ll leave with a finished, or semi-finished statue that you’ll be able to take home and paint, or mold and cast so you can make copies to sell, or give away.

Troy McDevitt started his sculpting career sculpting custom wedding cake toppers in 2003, up until 2007. Being a lifelong comic/sci-fi/fantasy nerd, he slowly made the transition from wedding cake toppers, over to superhero and monster sculpts for various garage kit companies and private collectors. Eventually his sculpts caught the attention of some collectible companies, and he began getting commissions for sculptures from well-known entities such as Bowen Designs, Sideshow Collectibles, XM Studios, ARH Studios, ReelArt Studios, Super7, etc.

Troy’s other passion is teaching new, up-and-coming sculptors the tips, tricks and techniques that were shared with him when he first started off. And that brings us to this class. It doesn’t matter if you’ve done fifty sculpts, or zero, this class will have something to offer everyone.
